Controversy in Cleveland?

The Detroit Tigers found themselves in a desperate situation in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the ALDS, still tied 0-0 against the Cleveland Guardians, despite Tarik Skubal turning in a masterclass that was among the best performances by any Tigers pitcher in the history of the game Playoffs mattered.

With two outs in the eighth, the Guardians decided to bring dominant closer Emmanuel Clase into the game and get the four-out save.

The Tigers had Matt Vierling at second base and had a good chance to score if rookie Wenceel Pérez could somehow get a bat on a Clase pitch. He did exactly that.

SKUBAL'S JEWEL: Tarik Skubal delivered one of the Detroit Tigers' most dominant postseasons ever

Pérez hit the pitch to left-center field in what looked like a sure hit until left fielder Steven Kwan somehow managed to catch the ball just before it hit the grass. Or is it?

Tigers manager AJ Hinch quickly concluded that the game was worth a challenge, but after a review the refereeing team decided to stick with the on-field statement: Pérez was out.

Because of the position of Kwan's glove during the catch, it was almost impossible to say whether Kwan was sure to make the catch clean, but considering the hit would have hit Vierling, it had a chance of remaining in disrepute among Tigers fans.
