JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – We are just two days away from the opening of the 165th State Fair in downtown Jackson.

In the past, getting into the fair could be a hassle with long lines and paid parking fees, to name a few.

Well, that's a thing of the past now.

One of the biggest changes you'll see this year is a quicker way to get you through those gates and enjoying the festivities.

“We're excited about it. I can even hear them cranking up the generators out here,” said Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson.

Employees were spotted at every corner of the exhibition grounds on Tuesday setting up rides to make your visit to the trade fair an unforgettable experience.

To avoid creating queues this year, Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson said the following.

“We now actually have online tickets for the first time in history in 165 years. This is the first time you can get tickets online at MS.State.fair.com.”

These tickets are on sale now for eight dollars, but you can also pay at the door for just $10. Gipson says parking is also free this year.

“You no longer have to wait in line to pay the parking fee and do all the exchanges. You can come here and park. You just buy your tickets, show your QR codes and you’re done.”

We would like to note that in the past, entrance to the fair and parking cost $5 each.

To ensure your safety, Gibson said law enforcement from multiple agencies will be on site to strictly enforce the rules.

“When they get here they will experience the police presence and that feeling of security. If you don't do good, you have to stay away. You need to stay away from the state fair because you don’t want to get caught here.”

There is also a 9 p.m. curfew for children under 18 every evening. You must be accompanied by an adult. Other new features this year include the “Agripuppet” show.

It's a show that teaches kids about farming.

There is also a daily rodeo event.

The fair officially opens on Thursday, October 3rd and runs until October 14th.
