The quickest way to a baseball fan's heart is hustle. Casually walk the base paths and you'll hear the boos. If you race to first base against all odds, you might become a cult hero. Just like New York Mets second baseman Jose Iglesias.

Iglesias gave the Mets their exciting play of the season on Tuesday in the first game of the NL Wild Card Series. New York trailed 4-3 with two outs early in the fifth quarter. The second baseman hit a ball into the path of Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins. Ninety-nine percent of the time, Hoskins' catch and flip to the pitcher's first deck would have ended the inning with one out. But Iglesias didn't give up the game.

With a daring head-first slide, Iglesias beat Joel Payamps to the base. His try brought home Tyrone Taylor and leveled the game. And things only got better from there.

That slip ultimately made the difference between a one-run deficit and a four-run lead heading into the sixth. With Iglesias preventing the final out of the inning, he allowed Brandon Nummo to reach with an infield single, Mark Vientos to drive in two more runs with a single to right, Pete Alonso to load the bases with an intentional walk, and JD Martinez brings home two more runs with a single of his own.

According to StatCast's David Adler: Iglesias' sprint speed was 29.3 ft/sec to get it done first. His regular season average was 28.5 ft/sec. The MLB average is 27 ft/sec. It's not just speed. It's all just hectic. This is a tireless effort.

The slide even cost Iglesias his belt, which broke during the match.

The cost of a replacement belt would definitely be worth it at this point.

Players like Iglesias and their big heart and effort turned the season around for the Mets and got them to the postseason. Now they are doing their best to keep the season alive even longer.
