PALM DESERT, Calif. – Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James' second preseason game Sunday against the Phoenix Suns at Acrisure Arena will still be a “full-circle moment” for the rookie on his 20th birthday.

LeBron James' son completed pre-draft training with the Suns before the Lakers took him in the second round of the USC draft.

“Just a gratifying opportunity,” Bronny James said of practice after Saturday’s practice at Acrisure Arena. “I went in there and gave it my best shot. Worked my butt off. It will be a special full circle moment when we play the Suns.”

It seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Lakers would form the first father-son duo on an NBA team with Bronny James, but this practice in Phoenix provided some intrigue and excitement.

Months later, he will have the opportunity to play against the Suns.

“It will be good to see these guys again,” added Bronny James.

James scored two points on 1-of-6 shooting in his first preseason game Friday, which came in the final minute of a 124-107 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Acrisure Arena.

James played 16 minutes and led the team with three blocks, added an assist and a rebound and had a turnover. In the film session that followed, James took stock of his piece.

“I'm aggressive on both ends of the court, but also just trying to get comfortable in the new offensive and defensive systems,” Bronny James said. “I just go out there, do my best and try to find my role.”

LeBron James didn't play on Friday, but he watched his son in action from the bench. James and Anthony Davis, who won the gold medal in Team USA's Paris Olympics, rested.

“Any rank you climb is always an adjustment to get used to,” LeBron James said Saturday. “Going from middle school to high school, from high school to USC and now to the pros, it was always an adjustment you had to make. The more he’s on the floor with pros, the more speed, cadence and all those things, the better you get.”

James added his son continues to work and James is seeing improvement every day.

“It's up to us as veterans and the guys out here to try to help him, help Dalton (Knecht) (freshman) and help all the young guys get better and better every single game,” James added.

Bronny James said he and his father spoke after the game.

“I'd rather not go into detail,” a smiling Bronny James said of the conversation between him and his father. “Just supportive, (continue to) work hard, continue to have confidence. Stuff like that.”

LeBron James and Davis will play against the Suns on Sunday. The Lakers have six preseason games and will open the regular season on October 22 against the T-Wolves at Crypto.com Arena.

“It’s not like we have a lot of time,” LeBron James said. “We have to take advantage of these preseason games, the rest of these preseason games. We have these practices, these film sessions to continue to train our system and our chemistry.”
